Road sign row rubbles on
A ROW has erupted over a street in Pant which has gone without an official road sign for nearly 30 years.
Rectory Lane residents Keith and Jill Billington are outraged after being told that the lane will only get a sign if it changes its name to Rectory Close, because there is already a Rectory Lane in neighbouring Llanymynech.
The area was apparently once called Brick Kiln Lane, but has gone under the name of Rectory Lane for around 30 years, according to residents.
It has never had any official signage and has used a makeshift sign for many years.
In early 2007, Keith contacted Llanymynech Parish Council who agreed that the street should, in fact, be named Rectory Lane. Residents were consulted and also agreed.
Last month, the couple were told by the parish council that the erection of a sign had been pencilled into the 2008/09 budget and they suggested it might be useful for the sign to include the fact that the street is a cul-de-sac, having no through road.
The decision to put up a sign was then apparently reversed and residents were told that although the sign could include the words 'no through road', it would need to be changed to Rectory Close as there is already a Rectory Lane in Llanymynech.
