POST Office Ltd last week confirmed their decision to close 48 branches across Shropshire including Morda and West Felton, replacing the West Felton office with an outreach facility.

West Felton Stores will continue to operate an outreach Post Office service, which proprietor Rebecca Walters, says they have had built into their long term plans for many months, and will actually allow them to offer a far wider range of services.

"We have successfully negotiated a very good deal for our village," she said, "The Post Office know they need an outlet here but they want to do it in a more cost effective way, while the store also needs the customers generated by a post office in order to sell our range of locally-sourced products.
"There has been a lot of panic, largely created by the media, but so long as the change forms part of a well thought out business plan I see it as a bonus, allowing us to offer more services than we were able to before."
In Morda residents have been urged to fight back against proposals to shut their village post office. Reacting to the initial announcement in April, Morda post-master Nick Shaw said the news did not come as a shock but added he did not know what it would mean for the rest of the store.
Confirmation of the closures followed a six week public consultation which ended this week, during which time Post Office Ltd received around 2,900 responses.
Mark Partington, Post Office Ltd's Network Development Manager, said: "These are difficult decisions which have not been taken lightly. We have considered very carefully all the comments made during the public consultation."
