NEW images of the Richard Burbidges Ltd. cinema and retail park proposals have been released, but the scheme has been met with criticism by a pressure group.
The new images show an overall look at the proposed Whittington Road developments announced last month.

They rival Liberty Mercian's own development proposals for the Oswestry Cattle Market, Shrewbury Road site.

Local town centre sustainability pressure group Os21 have previously criticised the Liberty Mercian proposals for being too far out of town and likely to advrsely affect trade in the town centre.

Now, the group has criticised the Richard Burbidge Ltd. proposals saying that they too are too far out of town.

On the Os21 website, 'Chas' writes: "Even on a fine day it is crazy to imagine that anyone having shopped at the proposed supermarket (superstore? hypermarket?) will, having loaded up their car, be prepared to trudge up to Boots, or Honeysuckle or Textile Express. They're either going to drive up and park again. Or go home.

"This site is an out of town site. It is not as ridiculously far away as the Smithfield site, but it is not within walking distance of the town centre."

What do you think about the 'store wars'? Do you have a preference between the two sites - or would you prefer niether was built? Leave your comments below, or email mark.hooson@nwn.co.uk

Is the advertiser in favour of the smithfield site, as they seem to keep having today`s vote-are you in favour of the smithfield site.

Why don`t you ask the people of Oswestry, which one do they prefer,What do they want to see in the new development or were do people think the development should be built if the two proposal were not viable.

While it does seem to be a fair out of town. perhaps thats what the town needs to encourage people from just outside the local area to come and spend their money in the town.
The main worry is for local traders in the town centre. They could lose a lot of custom. As people may just call to one of the two proposed sites, and not bother going into the town centre. Its seems to be the way most towns are going now.
Close to wigan. We have two out of town shopping centres. Which some shoppers prefer. Both have cinema complexes and other entertainment as well.
Although, Wigan does have a thriving town centre. With New shopping precincts to.
Hopefully. whatever the outcome. Oswestry will grow and prosper.
