CHIRK residents are supporting St Martins residents in a bid to stop an energy giant routing overhead power lines through their areas.
St Martins residents will go to the polls on May 15 in a referendum bid to make a representation to SP Manweb to reconsider routing the cables underground, instead of overhead, as is currently proposed.

In Chirk the cables will run through the hamlet of Pontyblew, on the edge of the town, where the rivers Ceiriog and Dee meet.

Town clerk, Sam Hughes, said the town council has also objected to the
plans, and requested SP Manweb sink them underground.

Chirk South Wrexham County Borough Councillor, Terry Evans, revealed
last week that a number of residents in Chirk were unhappy with the proposals.
