THE programme of works to be completed at the Mere was discussed at a recent meeting of the Mere committee where members heard that although the Boathouse will be closed for the season, the kiosk will remain open as long as possible.

There has been a gap in work at the Boathouse Restaurant which commenced in November last year when the building was stripped out in preparation for refurbishment. Work had to begin this early so that funding was used before the end of the year. Wo
rk will begin again in April on the building and landscaping and is due to end in October.

The kiosk works will begin in September, so there will be a short time when there are no refreshment facilities on site.

The Moors toilet block, which regularly suffers vandalism, will be demolished towards the end of the construction period, and there may be a short time between this and the opening of The Boathouse facilities, during this time there will be temporary signs to point people in the direction of the Cremorne Garden toilets.

Removal of the Mere Visitors Centre will be carried out when The Boathouse is open. Restoration of the two boathouses and the Mere Cottage should be complete by July, as will works on the car parks.

Restoration of the promenade, landscaping in Garden Terraces and the play area will commence in September.
