DESPITE Gobowen's Silo Central closing as a youth centre venue, its spirit will continue at the village pavilion once the Brooks Buildings are sold.

Silo Central's current home is up for sale, and when sold; the money is planned to be used as revenue costs for running youth work at the pavilion on the playing fields at Gobowen.

Whilst a relationship between Silo and Gobowen and Selattyn Parish Council is developing, a donation from a local businessman will allow sports sessions to be held on the playing fields in the interim.

Gwyneth Cliffe, Manager of the Silo Central Management Committee said: "Silo trustee members held an emergency meeting on June 17.

"Most of the trustees of Silo have worked to provide a youth service for Gobowen for at least 15 years, and I have been Chairperson for 10 years.

"We have raised approximately half-a-million pounds which has gone through the books at Silo to provide the salaries for in excess of 45 members of staff in eight years in the present building.

"There are issues with building maintenance, insurance and 'on costs' as well as providing salaries for all those employees.

"I was heartened to receive several phone calls of support for our input at Silo and to say how sorry they were to see the centre closing," she added.

Gwyneth said Silo trustees are looking forward to working with the parish council to provide youth facilities for the village.

"The doors of Silo Central have closed, but the doors of the Pavilion are open," she said.

To continue their youth work in the short term, trustees are appealing to anyone who would like to make a donation to contact 01691 661383 or 01691 659130.
