Cabinet back new policy for schools

CONTROVERSIAL County Council policy which could force two small Oswestry schools to close, was backed by the Council's Cabinet last week.
The Cabinet unanimously approved the draft primary schools organisation policy which, they say, will safeguard the future education needs of children in the county by tackling falling pupil numbers.
Under the terms of the policy, schools should have a minimum of four classes, potentially affecting a number of schools in the area.
Two schools in particular, Selattyn CE Primary School and Maesbury Primary School, each with fewer than four classes as required by the new policy, now face an agonising wait to see whether or not they will be affected by the policy as the draft goes to a full council meeting next month.
The council will debate the issue on December 14 and have the final decision on adopting or rejecting the policy. They will also be able to make amendments where they see fit.
