In an Oswestry Library and Advertizer campaign, Framed by Frank Cottrell Boyce was chosen in March by the public as the book the whole town could enjoy as part of Oswestry Reads 2008.
In the novel the characters are inspired to look at their town
with fresh eyes and see its hidden beauty and this is exactly what organisers at the library hope young people can capture with their cameras.
If you are aged 11-19 take your camera out into the town and look for the unusual, hidden or beautiful sights, this could be a view from an alternative angle, your favourite place to go in Oswestry, the contrast of new and old together, or simply a small detail in the street that stands out to you.
When you have found what you think sums up Oswestry in the Frame, enter your photo in the competition using the rules and
entry form you can download hereThe judges will be looking at the thought and imagination that has gone into taking the photograph, not just a lucky snap, so take your time to get the best shot.
The closing date is Friday, August 15, the two categories are for ages 11-16 and 17-19, £50 will be awarded to the winner of each category.
Selected entries will be displayed in the new library building on September 10.
If you have not done so already pick up a copy of Framed by Frank Cottrell Boyce for some inspiration.
Advertizer photographer Huw Davies' tips for taking the perfect shot
- Get closer to the subject rather than using the zoom, this change the perspective.
- Make sure the image/subject you want to feature is sharp.
- Try shooting from the ground or up above
.
- Do not be afraid to experiment. Take lots of pictures, if its digital, its free. If a shot did not work out change the camera settings.
- Try not to have the background too cluttered as this will distract from main subject.
