ELLESMERE'S Oliver Townend is hoping to write his name in the record books this week aboard Carousel Quest as he looks to become the first horse and rider combination to win the Burghley Horse Trials' three-day event two years running.
"Last year at Burghley was a brilliant moment for me and it was the biggest win of my career to date so it will be lovely to go back after the great memories I have from a year ago," said Oliver, who will be competing in the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials this week, the penultimate event in the HSBC FEI Classics, which bring together the top end of the international eventing circuit, uniting the world's five four-star competitions.
"I am really proud of what we did last year, I would love to repeat that again and I see no reason why we can't do just that. The horse is on great form and if he keeps that up then we are in with a chance of winning it.
"Winning it for a second year in a row would be really special but I am not thinking about making history, just winning."
