YOUNG cyclist, Tomos Owens, has repeated his 2009 Welsh Championship success by riding his way to victory at this year's event, in Towyn.
Tomos, 11, from Llanymynech, blitzed the opposition in the Under 12s race as he made a break with the eventual runner up to steer clear of the field, and he put in another concerted effort mid-way through the eight mile circuit which ran through the town centre, to go it alone and receive the coveted winners jersey.
"I wasn't allowed to sleep in the jersey the night I won it but I wanted to after the race," said Tomos.
The young trailblazer has been in fine form since initially taking the title last year and warmed up for this event by winning a recent Under 12s event staged by the Wolverhampton Wheelers.
Tomos also finished in an impressive sixth place at the Under 12 British Championships at Hoghill, London, in early July, in a field where all but one of the riders were older than him, to prove once again that he is one of the sport's up and coming prospects.
Now he is looking forward to the forthcoming British Indoor Championships later this month but insists he is still taking each race as it comes.
"I would like to turn professional one day, but I have lots of fun doing it and I get lots of support from family and friends, as well as my coaches. They have all helped me a lot," Tomos added.
