VISITORS to the site of the historic Battle of Crogen can now learn more about the famous 12th Century action thanks to information boards which were unveiled last week.
Amateur local historians, Mark Williams and Derryn Poppitt, obtained funding from Northern Marches Cymru to publicise the battle which saw the might of Henry II's forces harried and harassed by Welsh partisans led by Owain Gwynedd in the woods near Bronygarth in 1165. He was eventually forced him to abandon his plans to conquer Wales.
Thanks to the pair a plaque marks the historic incident at Castle Mill bridge and a video is being produced by Take 27 which will show key stages of the campaign.
