RESIDENTS in a part of Weston Rhyn fear they will be forced to move after a spate of incidents involving vandalism and thefts from cars.
One resident, who said she wished to remain anonymous in case of reprisals, has warned that decent people could leave the village unless nothing was done.
"It is horrible, I am frightened to park my car anywhere and I don't know what to do," she said.
"It seems as if nothing is safe here any more. Everyone is on edge and unless something is done there is a worry that people will take things into their own hands.
"More houses are going up for sale and soon my house will be empty too. It won't be long before there is just a string of empty houses in the village."
Low crime area
However, a police spokesman said that the incidents reported in the Brookfields Close area were not as frequent as the claims suggested with six acts of criminal damage or break-ins being reported in July.
"Weston Rhyn, like the rest of Shropshire, is a relatively low crime area and its levels of crime are average compared with the West Mercia Police area as a whole," the spokesperson added.
He explained that for three months from April to June there were 11 reports of vehicle crime with a further six since the beginning of July and denied claims that police seldom visited the area.
He urged residents to take basic security measures such as locking their cars, particularly at night, and not leave valuable property on view.
The area's dedicated local policing team of PC Katie Leclere and CSO Alanna Griffiths will be holding their next PACT meeting on August 24 in the Village Institute or they can be contacted by leaving a message on 01743 264780.
