AN Oswestry athlete has been targeted as one to watch in the run up to this year's Commonwealth Games in Delhi in October.

Oswestry 800m runner Ollie Blake is in with a chance of qualifying for the Games and is travelling to Copenhagen hoping to run a fast time and boost his chances.

After an injury-plagued season Blake recently rediscovered his form at the English Senior Championships and things are looking up in time for the Games in Delhi in three months time.

Competing in the 800m Blake came second in the qualifying round and came up with a fifth placed finish in the final.

"Even though I was very happy just to make the National Final, once I got there I really wanted a medal," commented Blake on his finish. Blake now feels he has to cut his times to be in with a chance of making the Games. "I have run under 1.50 minutes three times this season and my coach and I feel as though I am definitely in PB shape.

"We hope to target the Commonwealth Games qualifying standard of 1.47.5," he added.

Ollie now has as couple of weeks to focus on a block of training before heading to Copenhagen in hope of recording a fast time.
