PLANS have been put forward for a touring caravan site at one of Prestatyn’s leading tourist attractions.

Hondon Limited, trading as Ffrith Leisure, want to transform an overflow car park at Ffrith Beach Festival Gardens into a site for the use of touring caravans and mobile homes.

Members of Denbighshire County Council’s planning committee are being recommended to approve the move at Wednesday's meeting at County Hall, Ruthin.

The application will provide space for for 56 touring caravan pitches, plus 13 spaces for mobile homes.

While Prestatyn Town Council had no overall concerns against the plans but raised concerns about site opening times and the need for improvements to the entrance if the plans were given the green light.

Twelve letters of objection were received from local residents and other interested parties.

These expressed concern again site access, impact of the proposal on the sand dunes, noise and disturbance, loss of open space, pressure on water supply, electricity supply and too many caravan sites in the area.

Three letters in support of the application were also received.

One welcomed the move which would bring “much-needed money into the town”.

Another described the touring caravan park as “exactly the type of development” to improve the use of Ffrith Gardens and provide an economic boost with minimum impact on the local community.

It is recommended that no caravans or mobile homes should be allowed to stay more than 21 days and that the site should close between January 14 and March 1 each year.
