THE safety of young children is being put at risk by alcohol-fuelled louts who are tampering with play equipment in Oswestry’s Cae Glas Park.

Bolts have been removed from the roundabout in recent months by youths who are drinking in the park illegally after hours.

Tamper-proof bolts have been fitted to both play equipment and benches which had also been targeted and a list of checks is now being carried out every day to ensure the safety of young children, a report to the Town Council said last week.

Worrying

Now CCTV coverage is being examined to see if the culprits can be identified through local schools.

Town clerk, David Preston told members of the council’s amenities committee that the trend was worrying.

“There does seem to be quite a contingent of youths out of hours and they are tampering with the equipment in the children’s play area.

Cllr Bennett said that there was a need to enhance the quality and coverage of the CCTV cameras.

“We need to push CCTV up our agenda,” he added.
