WATER company Severn Trent will be returning to Oswestry next month to unveil £3m investment plans for the town’s waterworks.
Oswestry’s water providers will be at the Guildhall on Monday, March 8 and Tuesday, March 9 to exhibit plans to spend the cash on replacing ageing water mains and sewers in the town.
Paul Winterton, programme manager for Severn Trent, said: “The existing cast iron water pipes are beginning to show signs of wear and tear and are more prone to leaks and bursts, so we are going to replace them with modern, tough plastic pipes which will dramatically reduce the risk of future leaks.
“In addition, we need to replace parts of the sewer network in Oswestry, so it makes sense to do it at the same time in an attempt to cause minimum disruption to the town.”
On the Monday, the plans will be on display from 2pm to 6pm and on the Tuesday they will be available to view from 9am to 1pm. Representatives from the firm will also be answering questions about the plans.
The company will be in Oswestry over the next few weeks digging trial holes to determine the material and diameter of the existing water mains, and their proximity to other utilities assets such as gas and electricity.
From this, the company says it will be able to establish the safest, most cost-effective and least disruptive way of completing the work.
Severn Trent said it would also be talking to local businesses to ensure minimum disruption.
