A WORLD renowned firm of clock-makers based in Oswestry has been awarded a grant to help it expand.
Newgate Clocks, based in Glovers Meadow, has sold its products around the world, and even has celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay amongst its client list.
One of their clocks has even been seen adorning a wall at the cafe in television soap EastEnders.
Now, thanks to an Opportunity Grant from British Airways, Newgate Clocks’ venture into the U.S. market has been bolstered.
The firm is hoping to get their unique and unusual clocks into some of America’s biggest chains, such as Pottery Barn, after meeting with representatives at a trade show in New York last year.
Promotion
The cross-Atlantic expansion means that representatives from Newgate Clocks will have to be Stateside for a throng of trade shows to help promote their products.
The BA Opportunity Grant will help with the cost of travel between the UK and the U.S., and even southern China - where the clocks are now manufactured.
Owned and run by Chloe and Jim Read, the clock-makers originally manufactured all their clocks in Oswestry, the proprietors opening their new Glovers Meadow factory in June last year.
Thrilled to receive the grant, Jim said: “Out of around 4,500 applicants, we were one of the lucky 100. Apparently we were one of the first to be chosen, so we came quite high up in that 100.”
Jim explained how the grant will help Newgate expand: “It’s going to mean we are launching ourselves in the U.S. We are already selling in the odd store in America but this time we are selling nationally.”
The grant will ensure Newgate representatives are able to travel to more trade shows and meetings in the US, and two of its staff recently went out to Atlanta to represent the company.
