Chester music student lands place in two national bands

A TALENTED Chester music student has been praised after he gained a place in two national bands.

Staff at The King’s School, Wrexham Road, congratulated trumpet-player Joe Bentley, 16, after he took up a place at the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Wales and the National Youth Brass Band of Wales.

Joe, of Wrexham, is still waiting to hear if he got a third place in the National Youth Orchestra of Wales.

School spokesman Vicky Titmus said more than 200 people from 11-24 years of age try out for the bands every year.

“With only around 50 places, Joe has done extremely well,” she said.

Danny Ortiz, director of the Big Band and Joe’s trumpet teacher, said: “Joe is a very talented trumpet player who works extremely hard in all our bands at school.

“I am delighted that he will be able to spread his wings with the national band and wind orchestra and I’m very proud of him.”
