Crews work to free the cow

FIRE crews from across the region were called to the rescue of a cow who had fallen 60ft down a disused quarry near West Felton last Wednesday morning.

Appliances from Oswestry, Wellington, Church Stretton and the incident commander from Shrewsbury spent three hours using specialist equipment to winch the cow from the quarry on farm land in Haughton.

The cow, which was not injured, was sedated by a vet before the rescue was attempted, and is expected to make a full recovery.

A four wheel drive off-road rescue vehicle from Oswestry and the farm owner’s mechanical digger were used to carry out the rescue.
