A Powys town council has been left “saddened and disappointed” after a 30ft tree was cut down in nearby wetlands.

Llanfyllin Town Council has asked for information after an elder tree was felled and left in the river.

The council said it was saddened that the act could have been carried out by someone living in the community.

A spokesperson for Llanfyllin Town Council said: “We are saddened and disappointed that this may have been carried out by those within our community.

“A mature alder tree, estimated at around 30ft tall, has recently been felled at the far right-hand side of the Wetland, beyond the willow arch, and left in the river.

“This is being treated as vandalism and will be reported to the police.”

The town council is encouraging anyone with any information about the incident to contact them via their email: community@llanfyllin-tc.gov.wales

They have confirmed that any information they receive “will be treated in confidence”.
