THE New Saints U19s have been crowned champions of the Cymru Premier Development League North for the first time since 2018.

The Oswestrians outclassed Flint Town United in a 12-0 thrashing on Sunday to be crowned champions.

Cian McIntosh, Louis Crofts, Ieuan Jones-Wellstead and Daniel Tilsey each netted doubles while Tyler Roberts, Luke Johnston and two own goals from Jacob Dempsey completing the rout.

Head of Performance Phase Simon Smith was delighted for his players and shared his pride.

He said: “The boys have been fantastic all season and have fully deserved to win the title this season, every player and staff member have played their part in the win and as a collective we are very proud of the boys and how they have represented the club.

“The result topped of a fantastic season, a 12-0 victory against a team who beat us in the Youth Cup Quarter final was very sweet, and it could have been more, the goals flowed throughout the team and we played some excellent football from the first minute to the last minute.”

Smith insisted the players should savour the success but the main goal was to develop players for a possible professional career.

He said: “Obviously we are delighted to win the league but the main goal for these players is to get a professional contract with our first team. We are hoping to get some over the line but if not they will have back up plans to go and play in America or go to university in the UK.”

The championship success marked a fine weekend for the Oswestrians with their women’s team also winning the Genero Adran Plate.

Meanwhile the club’s senior string continues its total and utter domination of the JD Cymru Premier with the 7-1 thrashing of Caernarfon Town on Friday night extending their lead to an eye-watering 25 ponts with three games remaining.

The Saints travel to the capital on Saturday with Cardiff Met once again bidding to derail the Oswestry club’s season-long stroll for honours.
