A DOG has become a celebrity in a town and went viral across the globe for her love of Guinness.

Nine-year-old Springer poodle, Gracie, loves a tipple and can regularly be seen slurping a Guinness or real ale at the Liberty Tavern in Llangollen - where she even has her own designated glass.

Her owner, John Liversage, explained how her love for it started. "There was a can of Guinness one night and there was a little bit left in the glass," he said. "It was jokingly tipped into her bowl and it went in seconds.

"The next time we were in the pub she was sat on my knee and she started drinking it out of the glass. The people in the pub were howling laughing. It just started from there.

"I started her on real ale, and she loved that as well."

John said he has been informed that there are no adverse health effects for Gracie.

"The vets told me it's fine as long as she has real ale or Guinness, none of the gassy ones which have chemicals which could be harmful," he said.

"A lot of people say you shouldn't give dogs beer. I took her for her medical at the vets and the nurse doing the exam asked if this is the dog who drinks Guinness and real ale, I said yes and she said 'well you carry on there's nothing wrong with her'."

Gracie's love of boozy beverages has made her somewhat of a local celebrity in Llangollen, and much further beyond - with a video of Gracie having a tipple going viral.

John said: "Last summer, a lady from Australia was over in the UK. She was at the bar and asked what time does Gracie come in, and the girl behind the bar asked why - she said she'd seen the video of her.

"We were sat there and they came over, they were on holiday and came to Llan specifically in the hope of seeing Gracie. It was incredible. I have a Facebook friend who lives in Australia, he shared the video and then it went viral. It's gone all over America, God knows how many millions have seen it."

Asked if Gracie has ever bitten off more than she can chew - John said she's a "heavyweight".

He said: "During Covid I started a courier business. I was in a pub in Southampton one night, I gave Gracie her half a bitter which she drank before having her dinner - she's got her priorities right.

"There was a group of students in there, and when I returned from the toilet there was another half on the table. I asked at the bar who got it, and it was the students. Gracie saw it off in seconds.

"When I went to the toilet again I returned to see another half which someone else had bought her. She had a pint and a half and she was fine. Afterwards I took her to a nearby park, she had a run around like a loon and then slept through the night."
