A POPULAR cycling event has received a boost ahead of its 2023 date.

The Borderland Mountain Bike Challenge, which is run by the Rotary Club of the same name, has been told that Oswestry firm Aico will continue its sponsorship of the annual fundraiser.

Aico’s community engagement officer, Jane Pritchard gave a talk to members of Borderland Rotary last week when she delivered the good news.

Jane also gave a potted history of the company and its values and aims.

She said: "The Borderland Mountain Bike Challenge is a good example of the way we try to help as the money raised from the event goes to support the air ambulance and other local groups.

"The business is centred around our own brand smoke alarms, which are manufactured, exclusively for us, in the Republic of Ireland.

"As the company has grown, we have tried not to forget the community around us and have engaged with many local good causes and charities."

The Borderland Mountain Bike Challenge, will start at 10am on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the Rhiwlas Village Hall, just west of Oswestry.

OTHER NEWS:

The 22-mile challenge is also sponsored by packaging firm Dairi-Pak and town centre bike shop Mule.

It takes the riders over natural trails, green lanes, and farm tracks, on private land in the foothills of the beautiful Berwyn Mountains and is available to riders of all levels of competence.

Jane continued: "However, it’s not for the faint hearted as there’s only about 300 meters of tarmac and probably no more than that on level ground.

"Some may wish to ease the pain by entering on their e-bikes and they are very welcome.

"You just need a bike, a helmet, and the heart of a lion."
