Plans to move Ellesmere Library into its new home have been hit by further delays.

Campaigners from the Friends of Ellesmere Library – a group established in the wake of plans by Shropshire Council to close the town centre branch – said this week that they had hoped the move from Fullwood House to the Meres Day Centre would be completed in the next few weeks.

However, in a message to followers, the group revealed “the timetable has slipped again” as the unitary authority details the relocation with social care charity Bethphage, which will operate the library in its new home.

But the group isn’t letting the delay slow them down.

They have already put together a talk Wildlife on Your Doorstep by the Advertizer’s nature correspondent Vicky Turrell at Ellesmere Town Hall on Friday, March 31, from 2pm, tickets £2.50 to include tea and homemade cakes, while on Friday, April 28, they will be marking World Book Night with Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner at The Boathouse, featuring novelists Jenny Blackhurst and Karen Long, with investigator Paul Beeton. Tickets £10 to include a one-course supper from 6pm, or £5 for just the talk from 7.30pm.

On Saturday, April 29, they will be running a Facebook workshop with digital marketing expert David Ardill, at the library, the event is free but booking is essential by contacting the library, and on Tuesday, October 10, from 7pm the annual meeting will take place at Ellesmere Comrades Club with entertainment from Ukey Monster.
