Is the Lidl junction better than we feared?

Staff reporter (Border Counties)

A new junction on the entrance into Oswestry may have had a very different effect to those first feared.

As the Advertizer previously reported, many councillors and residents had voiced concerns that creating a traffic-light system on the Salop Road and Victoria Road junction would cause chaos.

In particular, town councillors were vexed as their requests for a site visit and proposal for a roundabout appeared to go unheard.

The changes were made as part of the new Lidl supermarket scheme.

But as the store opened last week, traffic flowed better than ever – as our picture shows.

Cllr Sandy Best said there was an improvement – but there were still issues with accessing the cemetery.

She said: “I’ve heard people say there’s been an improvement, and there has – but the issue now is with access to the cemetery, because when people are waiting, they are blocking the entrance to the cemetery.

“The town council is looking into this. It needs a hatched box, but that really should have been thought about before.”
