AN OSWESTRY barber’s is shutting up shop after eight years in business.

Merv Annetts, owner of Sweeney Todd in Leg Street, said he would be sad to say goodbye to his staff and customers, as well as the neighbouring businesses, when he retires at the start of next month.

He told the Advertizer: “We’ve had good customers who have been very friendly and I have had some nice people working for me.”

Many of his customers have been in touch to say their farewells, while a thank-you notice is currently on the shop door.

The business is well known in Oswestry for its ironic name, which it already had when Merv, 67, took it over.

At that time it was based in the neighbouring property, but he moved it to increase space.

Its former home saw the barbers hit the headlines last year when a new business opened up next door – The Little Pie Shop.
