THE Oswestry and Border Counties Advertizer has produced an historic 12-page supplement to commemorate the centenary of the start of the First World War.

'Lest We Forget', a pull-out published in today's Advertizer (Tuesday, July 29) provides an insight to how the Great War changed life forever in Oswestry and the surrounding areas.

Included are stories from local families, the history of Park Hall and an in-depth look at some of our bravest soldiers, including Harold Whitfield who was awarded the Victoria Cross.

The supplement also tells how some of the greatest poetry ever was born out of human misery, with Oswestry-born Wilfred Owen widely regarded as one of the most famous and acclaimed voices of the First World War.

The nation will mark the beginning of the First World War on August 4.

The Oswestry and Border Counties Advertizer is in shops now for 65p.
