RESIDENTS are being warned not to allow parcels to be left on doorsteps.
Sergeant Scott Barnes told members of Selattyn and Gobowen Parish Council that delivery items left on show were a clear indication to would-be burglars that a house is empty.
The caution came after a package was stolen from a house in Gobowen.
Sgt Barnes said: “I would remind people having deliveries to use a safe place or a neighbour if they're not going to be at home. Otherwise you are indicating that you’re out.”
Councillor Percy Cherrington questioned whose responsibility parcels were when left outside someone’s door, claiming he had a parcel left that wasn’t for him.
Sgt Barnes replied: “If delivery companies are leaving things they shouldn’t then people need to speak to them.”
He revealed that a catalytic converter had been stolen from a car and an honesty box taken from outside a house.
