A RUNNER is planning to smash a world record by completing 53 marathons in 53 days.
Amy Hughes, pictured, a 26-year-old sports therapist from West Felton, has set herself the mammoth 1,400-mile challenge to help raise funds and awareness for a charity very close to her heart – the Isabelle Lottie Foundation.
The challenge will see Amy visiting 53 different towns and cities across the UK in 53 days, starting on August 6, including Manchester, London, Glasgow, Bristol and Newcastle.
The Isabelle Lottie Foundation was formed in February 2014 by the family and friends of Isabelle Wynne, following her diagnosis and treatment for Medulloblastoma.
Isabelle, from Bryn Offa, Wrexham, was just two when she was diagnosed, and she and her family, many of whom live around Oswestry, have since embarked on a life-changing journey through diagnosis and treatment.
Amy, who has taken part in numerous races and sporting events such as the London and LA marathons, said: “If you want to make a difference, you’ve got to do something crazy. By doing this I want to raise important funds and awareness about brain tumours through the Isabelle Lottie Foundation, as well as the importance of leading a healthy, active lifestyle.”
Amy is hoping her efforts will raise both funds and awareness for the Isabelle Lottie Foundation, which aims to support children and their families following the diagnosis of a brain tumour.
Every year in the UK about 500 children and young adults are diagnosed with different types of brain tumour. This usually marks the beginning of a life-changing and difficult journey, but having a better understanding of the illness and the treatments that are available can help families to cope and prepare for the next steps following diagnosis.
