Residents left baffled by road closure and diversion

A COMMUNITY  been baffled by limited information about road closures and diversions.
Perplexed Pant residents are facing uncertainty as the Highways Agency (HA) undertakes two weeks of roadworks, between May 6 and 21, to replace lighting cables on the A483 claiming it has not been made clear what it means for the village.
The authority has made it clear that motorists planning to travel through the area during the two overnight road closures on May 14 and 15, between the A483 junction with North Road and the B4398, face a 26-mile diversion towards the A5.
But confused community leader Dilys Gaskill, chairman of Llanymynech and Pant Parish Council, believes not enough has been done to make it clear to residents whether they will be expected to embark on the 26-mile round diversion just to get from one end of the village to the other.
She said: “The information the Highways Agency has put out has been very confusing.”
Mrs Gaskill has welcomed any work that would improve the road but she suggested the money would have been better spent going towards funding a new Pant bypass which campaigners have long fought for.
“It all adds to the fact that we need a bypass.
A spokesperson for the Highways Agency said: “We do regret any inconvenience caused by essential work taking place on the A483 this month.
“Most of the work will be carried out during the daytime using temporary traffic signals, but a diversion route is necessary between 8pm and 6am on two nights when the road must be closed to enable that part of the work to be carried out as quickly and safely as possible.
“We have notified people in advance so they can plan ahead. Letters were sent to local residents explaining the scheme, detailing the traffic management requirements and setting out the expected disruption.
“Anyone with further questions on this scheme can call the Highways Agency Information Line (HAIL) on 0300 123 5000.”
