A FOOTBALL club has distanced itself from the behaviour of three fans who were arrested following a fight on a train after the Welsh Trophy Final at the weekend.
Chirk AAA FC’s secretary Nigel Roberts told the Advertizer the club “cannot be held responsible” for the actions of the three men, said to be Chirk supporters from the Wrexham area, aged 49, 31 and 21, who were arrested and bailed after violence broke out on a stationary train at Rhyl railway station on Saturday.
The trio were travelling back from Chirk’s 3-2 cup final defeat against Llanrug FC.
British Transport Police (BTP) said on Monday a total of four men were arrested at 6.45pm on the Holyhead to Shrewsbury service – the fourth being a 34-year-old from Telford.
Two of the males were tasered by officers at the station.
All four men were later released on police bail pending until May 19 further inquiries .
In a statement Mr Roberts, club secretary of Chirk AAA, said: “The club ran two official supporters coaches to the Welsh Trophy Final at Rhyl on Saturday.
“Both these coaches were expertly marshalled by club stewards and there were no incidents during the day.
“We condemn this sort of behaviour.
“We must point out that the club made every effort to control their travelling supporters.
“We cannot be held responsible for an isolated group of people who made their own way to Rhyl.
“This incident happened a couple of hours after the game and was totally out of our control.”
A police spokesman said: “North Wales Police can confirm that four males were arrested during a public disorder incident at Rhyl railway station yesterday evening.
“Two of the males were restrained by a police officer using a taser device.”
Anyone who was at the station or on the train, and may have witnessed the disorder is asked to contact BTP on 0800 405040, quoting reference WSUB/B7 of 14/04/2014.
Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
