OSWESTRY will be bursting with market stalls when the town marks the annual Love Your Local Market week next month.
The fortnightly nationwide campaign will see rows of traders up and down Bailey Street and the Bailey Head, plus special events promoting young traders, a continental market and an antiques market.
In Oswestry, the town’s market will be joining 700 others from across the country in promoting young traders by offering free pitches for charities and entrepreneurs while local schools, colleges and organisations will also be taking part.
The highlight will be a Youth Market on May 14 including stalls presented by The Centre in Oak Street who will provide music and dance, Walford and North Shropshire College who are planning food demonstrations, the Marches School in Oswestry who will sell products made in their enterprise classes, along with the Oswestry Youth Cafe and Derwen College in Gobowen.
Graham Wilson OBE, chief executive of the National Association of British Market Authorities, said: “Love Your Local Market is the biggest market event in a generation. It gives people the chance of a new career and demonstrates how important the market is to the local community.
“With the financial backing of the government and our headline sponsor HMY Radford we intend to make Love Your Local Market 2014 once again the biggest and best markets campaign UK has ever seen.”
