Director's hunt for teenage leading lady

Staff reporter (Border Counties)

AN OSWESTRY scriptwriter and producer is offering one lucky teenager a moment in the spotlight after writing a performance for the BBC’s Sports Relief campaign.
Gareth Thomas launched the Oswestry Project with his friend, director Dave Wilson, before Christmas in the hope of bringing his inspirational sporting tale to life in a big screening on Sports Relief weekend in March.
But despite gaining the support of the nationwide fundraising event, Gareth is determined to keep the production local and wants the lead actress to come from Oswestry so he is currently on the hunt for a leading lady, who should be in her teens.

He said: “It’s about a girl named Jess who has a pretty rough upbringing, she’s being bullied, then she starts a new school in Oswestry and things continue to be the same until she meets Ben, a middle-aged grumpy receptionist at her school who used to be an athlete and recognises the potential that this girl has.”
It’s a typical tale of inspiration that Gareth says fits perfectly with the Sports Relief aims.
“We wanted to do something for a while and this just seemed to fit in well with our plans,” continued Gareth, who added that once the role is cast the rest of the project can get underway.
The 25-year-old also said that it is essential that all those involved are local and that the entire production is filmed and produced in the Oswestry area, adding: “I think that’s part of the charm about it, we hope that people will take part then come along for the viewing and see themselves on screen.”
