AMBITIOUS plans for a new hotel and leisure complex in Ellesmere will be outlined at a Shirehall meeting next week.
Project managers, Nigel Thomas Planning Consultancy Ltd, have invited local councillors to preliminary talks in Shrewsbury next Tuesday (December 18) with the hope of moving the Wharf scheme forward.
A pre-planning application outlines the creation of a 120-bed hotel with restaurant, lounge and bar areas, 188-berth marina, leisure spa building with swimming pool, fitness suite, indoor sports courts, and external tennis courts and bowling green, plus a pub and restaurant, children’s play barn and play area, cabins and space for touring caravans.
Discussing the proposal at last Monday’s meeting, Mayor of Ellesmere, Councillor Alan Clarke, said: “It is important that as many councillors as possible attend and we enter the preliminary talks with this one – it will create many jobs.”
Councillor Ann Hartley agreed, adding: “We have a potential for linking up the business park and the Wharf development with a road which is something we have advocated all along and would open up the access issues.”
Councillors Clarke and Hartley, will be joined by Pat McLaughlin, Sharon McMullan and John Frost at the meeting.
