The first ever Oswestry park run took place in Henley Wood this morning.

Runners gathered at the start line off Cabin Lane to take part in the 5km race which saw 168 people cross the finish line.

The course consisted of a mixture of trail paths and grass, but was clearly no problem for the runners, with the first place position going to Jack Pickett who completed the course in 17 minutes and 50 seconds.

Runners then went back to Cafe Life for tea and coffee and to find out their results.

Race director Ellen Harrison said she was thrilled by the response of the first Oswestry park run.

"It’s gone really brilliantly," she said.

"We’ve had really positive feedback from people. It’s a very mixed course that the competitors have seemed to enjoyed running.

"We’ve been working on the Oswestry park run for about 18 months and it’s really satisfying it’s finally started."

Ellen added that the initial difficulty with organising a park run was because of a lack of greenspace in Oswestry, but the course in Henley Wood has been adapted to make the complete course.

"We’ve had brilliant feedback, everybody’s loved it," continued Ellen.

"It’s got mixed terrain and I think it’ll vary again as time goes on and we go into the winter months.

"We’re rectifying any problems that were identified for next week and we will be back every Saturday at 9am."

The park run needs 20 volunteers each week to marshal to allow the event to take place each week.
