THE DIRECTOR of an award-winning company is set to make a cameo appearance on a top TV show.

Tom Brown of Oswestry-based food distribution company The Meat Man, appears on next week's episode of hit BBC One show The Apprentice.

Candidates on the show take to the NEC arena in Birmingham for the week’s task, where they are expected to sell high-end products at one of the world’s largest body-building expos.

The Body Power Expo attracts more than 100,000 people over three days and allows businesses to showcase their products to bodybuilding fanatics from across the country.

Mr Brown was at the event where he was unknowingly taken to appear on the TV show.

He said: “It was quite bizarre how it came about.

“As I was stood at the venue watching the crowds of people coming through the doors, a lady came across and asked if I’d be interested in getting a spray tan.

“My initial response was “no that’s not for me” but she managed to convince me.

“I was then taken to a booth where there were two cameramen, a guy holding a microphone and Karen Brady – as soon as I saw her it became clear that I was going to be on The Apprentice.

“It all happened really fast and it was quite strange, but it was a good experience and it’s great to see a business from the Oswestry area feature on a national show.”

Mr Brown added that he caught a glimpse of Claude Littner who along with Karen, accompanies Lord Alan Sugar in the boardroom.

He was also face to face with some of the show's contestants who were trying to sell products to him, with Mr Brown paying £25 for the spray tan they gave him.

He said: "I've never had a spray tan before so I'm not sure what the rates are usually like.

"I was a bit reluctant at first, but as I'm going on holiday in a few weeks it's given me a nice base layer!"

The Meat Man has a stall at the event in Birmingham each year, with Mr Brown attending the event for the past five years.

He added: “Initially, body builders were who we mainly targeted to sell our products.

“Now we’ve grown and we’re selling to everyone.”

The show will air on BBC One on Wednesday, October 24 at 9pm.
