Whitchurch Town Council will continue to employ an administrative supportive officer for a further six months.

The move was made in an item placed in the confidential section of Thursday's full town council meeting, after a recommendation from the personnel committee to either extend or make the support assistant permanent.

However, a motion put forward by Councillors Norma Raynes and Harvey Vasey about devolving the administration of meeting minutes and agendas to support staff was moved from the main meeting and merged with item 20 in confidential.

The six-month extension will allow for the town council to look at the necessary arrangements put forward by Cllrs Raynes and Vasey, such as re-assessing staffing structures across the council.

Their motion had been brought forward to allow Cllr Raynes the opportunity to speak despite her being unwell and needing to leave.

However, Cllrs Andy Hall, Alan Chesters and Lee Broders all felt that the item should be placed into confidential as it may have discussed the work of individuals at the council.

Cllr Vasey agreed to take the motion forward into the private part of the meeting on behalf of Cllr Raynes.

Meanwhile, the final details of 'Operation London Bridge' were finalised and agreed upon at the meeting.

Town clerk Nicola Young explained that on the event of the Queen's death, the current lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, Sir Algernon Heber-Percy, will be informed by the Privy Council.

An 'Operation London Bridge' box will arrive with armbands and immediately, the flag will be lowered to half-mast while other aspects include the issuing of an official press release before a Book of Condolence is opened, closing at 5pm the day after the funeral.

The mayor will be expected to lay flowers while councillors decided that the public can lay flowers in Jubilee Park, while it was announced all cards should be kept and sent to Buckingham Palace.
