THE MANAGER of an Oswestry gym will attempt to complete two Iron Man Challenges in a day to raise money for charity.

Marc Jones, gym manager at Lion Quays, will attempt to run 52.4 miles, cycle 224 miles and swim 4.8 miles in under 24 hours.

Manager at the gym for more than two and a half years, Marc is attempting the huge challenge to mark the gym’s 10-year anniversary.

He is also hoping to raise money for the Lion Quays’ chosen charity, Alzheimer’s Research UK, through donations.

Marc admitted that this will be his biggest personal achievement if he manages to complete it.

He said: “This is a huge challenge.

“I’m hoping that in doing this I might inspire some people to get involved with exercise.

“If someone hears about this and is inspired to step out of their comfort zone and run their first 5k or 10k race, that would be enough for me.

“I completed an Iron Man challenge a few years back and in 2013 I completed every distance of a triathlon within a year – but doing this within 24 hours will be the toughest challenge.”

Marc is hoping to start with the first swim, then complete the bike section of the challenge and then going to the treadmill for the running section, before returning to the pool to start the second round.

He added: “I am fully aware that completing it within 24 hours is going to be difficult – so my main priority is to just complete both challenges regardless of how long it takes.

“If I can get them both done within the time I’ve set then that would be a great bonus.

“It would be a very good physical achievement, but I think it will be tougher on the mental side.

“I just want to make sure I keep going and putting one foot in front of the other to get through it, hopefully without picking up any injuries.”

Marc will be taking on the challenge between 10.30am on Friday, November 16 and 10.30am on Saturday, November 17.

People are invited to register to take part in their own mini-challenge to help support Marc.

Those who are interested in taking on a mini-challenge need to register by Wednesday, October 31.
