A bench and arbour dedicated to a father and his five children who died in a house fire has been installed in Llangammarch Wells.

David Cuthbertson, 68, died in a fire at Poityn farm, near Llangammarch Wells, in October 2017 along with his children Just Raine, 11, Reef Raine, 10, Misty Raine, nine, Patch Raine, six, and Gypsy Grey Raine, four.

The memorial bench and arbour were dedicated by the vicar of Erwood who also gave a short speech at Riverside Gardens.

More than 100 people turned out to honour the victims of the fire on Saturday, October 13.

The family of the victims attended the memorial and thanked everyone for their support.

The Llangammarch Wells community raised more money than expected for a bench then bought an arbour.

The bench has a gold plaque commemorating each one of the victims and includes an inscription which says: “Remembered Forever. Tragically Taken From Us. 30th October 2017”.

Sue Lilly, who went to the memorial, said: “It was absolutely packed despite the lousy weather,

“There were well over 100 people at the memorial with the whole family there who are based in the UK.

“The support from this small close knit community was amazing.”

The communities of Llangammarch Wells, Cefn Gorwydd, Tirabad and Llanwrtyd Wells have all pulled together to launch The Llangammarch & District Disaster Relief Fund, a charitable trust that supports the surviving children affected by the tragic events at Poityn farm last year.
