A POPPY crafting morning was held at Canolfan Ceiriog last month.

Residents of Ceiriog Valley were invited to craft their own poppies in preparation for the Curtain of Poppies to be displayed at the Pontfadog and Glyn Ceiriog War Memorials in November.

Many poppies of various designs were made by knitting, sewing, crocheting, or using felt, paper and card to remember those lost as a casualty of war.

Completed poppies can be left at the Christian Centre at Glyn Ceiriog to be included in the curtains.

The curtains are being created to mark a century since the end of the First World War.

Wrexham County Borough Councillor for Ceiriog Valley, Trevor Bates, attended the event.

He said: “It was great to see so many people turning up to craft their own poppies.

“It’s always nice to see people in the community coming together.

“Children have been sending in their crafted poppies too, which is great to see.”

Cllr Bates spoke about how important it is to remember those who lost their lives fighting for the country.

He said: “It’s extremely important, I know people who have spent time in the military myself and the work they do is fantastic.

“Hopefully, we will get a good turnout when the curtains are unveiled next month.”
