A SERIES of events have showcased arts and crafts in Oswestry.

More than 300 people visited the town’s library on Saturday during Oswestry Makes Day.

Around 17 craft workers offered demonstrations and workshops at the event, including Latvian knitting with Dzintra Bernsaida, Mary Thompson showing Zentangle, needle felting with Rachel Scott and glass painting with Pauline Jordan.

Deborah Marais said that the event had been a success.

“We’re very pleased with the footfall, there’s a real buzz about the place,” she said.

“We’ve got everyone from children to octogenarians joining in and learning new skills.”

Oswestry Guide Dogs Association met visitors at the library cafe, and the Willow Gallery hosted a craft fair.

Oswestry Makes’ community project this year is to decorate the town with flowers of peace and remembrance.

Ms Morais said that around 1,000 people – including 50 shops and businesses – took part.

Oswestry Library is also displaying the natonal Wonderwool exhibition, Curtain of Poppies, along with a poppy installation by Whittington Together.
