Storm Callum brought disruption to commuters today as rail services were cancelled in Powys due to high winds and flooding issues caused by Storm Callum.

Trains between Machynlleth and Shrewsbury have been cancelled for the rest of the day with services terminating at Newtown. A rail replacement bus service operating between Machynlleth, Caersws and Newtown is operating at two-hourly intervals.

Services between Machynlleth and Pwllheli have also been cancelled, with a rail replacement bus service also in operation on the route.

According to Arriva Trains Wales, disruption is expected to continue into the weekend at the storm continues to bring wind and rain to the region.

"The 08:52 Machynlleth - Pwllheli, 10:55 Machynlleth - Pwllheli, 09:34 Pwllheli - Machynlleth and 11:37 Pwllheli - Machynlleth services will be cancelled. Replacement road transport will operate," said a statement.

"No trains will operate between Machynlleth and Newtown in both directions after 1000 until start of service on Monday."

Meanwhile Dyfed Powys Police have asked the public to "consider their options" before contacting them in the face of high levels of calls relating to Storm Callum.

"Our communication centre is currently experiencing high demand. Help us make the most of our resources and ensure the right calls are getting through to us. Consider your options before contacting us - in some cases other organisations are better placed to help you," they said.

"If a tree or power/telephone lines are down only call us if there is a significant risk to others OR there has been a collision and someone is injured - in this case call 999. If there is no danger, report this to your local council. Thank you. "
