A HOCKEY player who studied at Ellesmere College has been named in a squad to represent Great Britain.

Caro Hulme has been selected for the Great Britain Women's Elite Development Programme (GB EDP) squad for the 2018/19 season.

Launched last year, the GB EDP is part of a strategic objective, during the Tokyo 2020 cycle, to accelerate the development of future medal winning Olympians.

The programme is designed for 19 to 23-year-old athletes, with a squad of 24 players trimmed down from last year’s 36.

The 19-year-old was selected after a thorough and comprehensive process, including a recent 3-day assessment camp at Lilleshall.

Caro who comes from Bronygarth is one of the three Welsh players representing the squad.

Speaking about her call-up, Caro said: “I am thrilled to bits!

“I gave it my all at the trials, but did not know whether that would be enough to get in.

“I am so excited to get this opportunity.”

Caro's selection comes after her Senior Wales debut at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in April, and recent appearances in the FIH Open Series in Lithuania.

The midfielder now has 12 Senior Wales caps to her name. She has represented her country on over 60 occasions at U16, U18, U23 and Senior level.

Twin sister Lottie, who has also come through the National Age Groups, is a member of the WalesU23/ Senior Development squad, having gained her first Senior international Indoor cap at the European Championships in Brussels earlier this year.
