STUDENTS from North Shropshire College’s (NSC’s) Oswestry Campus were celebrating World Mental Health Day yesterday.

They showed their support for the day by providing information to students, staff and visitors and also by wearing yellow and painting nails to mark the occasion.

The College has seen a significant increase in recent years of young people dealing with a number of mental health issues.

There are hubs available at both Oswestry and Walford campuses to support students of all ages with any particular issues they may be having in terms of personal issues, or their academic studies and workloads.

Access to Higher Education Health Student Jordan Rogers said: “It’s important for us to mark this day about mental health issues, education is the key to stopping ignorance.”

Megan Morris who studies the Law and Criminology course added: “From personal experience with my family I’ve experienced a lack of understanding about mental health issues and its key for people to be more aware.

“I use the hub daily, I suffer with anxiety and it provides me with a safe haven.

“It offers a quiet environment where I can work effectively and see my friends. I know without the hub I don’t think I’d still be at College.

“It’s a fantastic resource that students from all courses who need help can use.”
