A COMMUNITY project has received a boost in its bid to give more people lifesaving training.

Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club has added a defibrillator trainer to its project to get as many people as possible on the streets with basic lifesaving skills and able to carry out cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

The new aid is a full sized automated external defibrillator (AED) trainer specifically designed to accurately simulate how to use a defibrillator.

In an emergency, defibrillators can be retrieved from any of the public access yellow boxes located on walls around Oswestry and the outlying villages.

Heartstart trainer Effie Cadwallader, and a partner in the Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club's project, said: "Used alongside the training manikins, this new trainer AED will help us to deliver a much more realistic practical simulation of how to carry out CPR and use a defibrillator in an attempt to save the life of anyone in a state of collapse and not breathing.

"The training defibrillator is so lifelike that, once trained, people will have much more confidence about accessing and using a nearby defibrillator anywhere any time.”

Anyone who is considering volunteer work in the community will be offered a warm welcome by Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club.

The club is ready to welcome men and women of 18 years and above from the area.

It is one of the new brand of Rotary Clubs that is designed to fit the family and work lives of a new generation of members.

It says the club does not come with a commitment to a meal every week and also none of the trappings or formalities of other, more traditional groups.

Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club meets informally at the Wynnstay Hotel in Church Street on Thursdays.

Members meet in the bar at 7.30pm to start the meeting at 8pm.
