NFU Cymru is urging farmers in Montgomeryshire to attend an upcoming county meeting to ensure they are informed of Welsh Government’s proposals outlined in the 'Brexit and Our Land' consultation.

The meeting, which will take place on Thursday October 4 at 7.30pm at The Elephant and Castle, Newtown, will inform farmers about Welsh Government’s proposals for future farm support, which includes phasing out current direct support payments.

Alex Higgs, NFU Cymru Montgomeryshire County Chairman, said: "This is the most significant consultation for a generation and we must ensure the industry’s voice is heard loud and clear. In the consultation document, titled Brexit and Our Land, Welsh Government proposes to introduce a new land management program for Wales which will be centred on two schemes of economic resilience and public goods. This will replace the Basic Payment Scheme which is to be phased out by 2025.

"NFU Cymru has created a web-based template to assist farmers in submitting their own response. Please bring your own laptop, iPad, notebook or similar and we will provide assistance for you to submit your own response on the night. There will also be a hard copy template for those of you who prefer putting pen to paper."
