ONE of Oswestry's popular annual events has been cancelled after the recent bad weather.
Oswestry's Community Games was set to take place on Sunday ((September 23) but heavy rain and wind has forced organisers to cancel the event.
A statement from organiser Clive Knight said: "We held an emergency working group meeting this morning and very sadly a unanimous decision was made to cancel the Community Games on Sunday in the interest of public safety and the state of the grass.
"It would not have been a good experience for participants in the conditions.
"Weather forecasts from Shawbury and BBC Weather show an even worse scenario than last night with wind, heavy rain and thunderstorms.
"We are very sorry about the decision. We appreciate everyone's commitment to attend, but it's best that we all stay safe."
It is unclear yet whether the event will be rescheduled for another date.
