NEW look venue Wrexham Live Rooms will kick off its live music offering with a gig from Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys.

The Pembrokeshire-born artist, who released his fifth solo album, Babelsberg earlier this year, will play the venue formerly known as Central Station on Friday, December 7 with tickets on sale now.

The Welsh indie icon, has had a busy year, making his debut at Edinburgh Festival with his show Resist Phony Encores and releasing Babelsburg in June.

The album features an orchestral score by Swansea-based composer Stephen McNeff and the 72 piece BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and prior to the tour Rhys played some shows with members of the orchestra, at London's Barbican Centre and Manchester's RNCM Concert Hall.

The Wrexham show will see him play with his full band including drummer Kliph Scurlock (ex-Flaming Lips) and multi-instrumentalists Stephen Black (Sweet Baboo) and Osian Gwynedd.

Central Station closed its doors for the last time this month ahead of a revamp which will see the building rebranded as 'The Live Rooms, Wrexham' becoming a sister venue to The Live Rooms in Chester after a significant upgrade to the interior decor of the venue which will include creating an entirely new room.
