AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into the cause of a house fire in Flintshire.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service firefighters spent hours tackling a house blaze on Woodland Drive, Flint, on Wednesday night.

They were called to the road after concerned residents alerted the emergency services at 5pm.

A spokesman for the fire service said: “Three appliances were in attendance, two from Deeside and one from Flint.

“Crews were using two breathing apparatus, one thermal image camera, small tools and a hose reel.”

Two emergency response vehicles were also at the scene.

The Leader:

Woodland Drive was cordoned off as firefighters “cut through the fire,” a spokesman said.

Officials from the gas board and electricity board were also alerted to the fire and they arrived at the scene shortly after 6pm.

A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said paramedics were not needed at the scene.

The Leader:

Police were not needed at the incident either.

Residents from neighbouring households looked on as the emergency services workers went about their tasks.

A number of householders with vehicles were unable to access their drives and had to park in neighbouring avenues.

Firefighters were heading back out to the property on Thursday to assess the fire.

The Leader:

Gareth Parry, Wales and West Utilities Gas Emergency Service Manager for Flint, confirmed today that they were alerted to reports of a fire at the property and sent a team of engineers to the scene.

He added: "When we arrived, the property was on fire. As a precaution, the emergency services evacuated nearby homes.

"We worked to isolate the gas service pipe supplying the affected property and an adjacent home.

"Residents in surrounding properties were temporarily evacuated but have now returned to their homes.

"We're working with the emergency services to investigate how the fire started."
