A MAN was caught driving his silver Mercedes at 108mph when he had a small child in the vehicle.

John Stephen Dobbing, 33, of Aspen Close in Connah’s Quay, admitted breaking the 70mph speed limit on the A55 at Broughton on June 13.

He was banned from driving for 36 days and fined £450 with £85 costs and a £45 surcharge.

Prosecutor Brian Robinson told Flintshire magistrates the weather was dry and traffic was light when he was stopped at 7.35pm but Dobbing had two passengers in the vehicle including a three-year-old child.

Dobbing, who represented himself, said he was in a rush to get home. He had overtaken a few cars and had not realised just how far over the speed limit he was for a brief period.

Dobbing told the Mold court he worked in Manchester and public transport would mean a two-and-a-half hour journey each way.

Magistrates said they had no option but to disqualify him for such a high speed and they also took into account that he had a very young child in the vehicle.
